ARAPAHOE HIGH SCHOOL WARRIORS
CLASS OF 1968
FIFTY YEAR REUNION
AUGUST 23-26th, 2018
The year was 1968. You could buy a new Ford Mustang for about $2000. A gallon of gas was 27.9 cents, a loaf of bread was 30 cents, Big Mac was .49 cents and minimum wage was $1.60 per hour.
We described our music with numbers 45 or 33 1/3, not with letters like CD, I Pod, or MP3.
Top song of the year was Hey Jude by The Beatles.
Memorable Quotes of 1968:
"Book 'em Dano"
- Jack Lord in Hawaii 5-0
"You’ve come a long way, baby"
- Virginia Slims Cigarettes
"Open the pod bay doors, HAL."
- Keir Dullea, in 2001: A Space Odyssey
"Ring around the collar"
- Wisk Laundry Detergent
- Barbra Streisand as Fanny Brice, in Funny Girl
"Get your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!"
- Charlton Heston, in Planet of the Apes
"If nominated I will not run; if elected I will not serve" was originally said by William Tecumseh Sherman in 1884, not president Lyndon Johnson in 1968.
We learned about Cells in Biology Class. They weren't something you placed calls on, or transmitted LOLs and OMGs.
The Paramount, Center and Denver downtown theaters, while traveling there and back on a two laned I-25 highway.
Kings Food Host and the old McDonalds drive- in restaurant on Broadway.
Broncos Burgers and Marathon Oil at the end of Dry Creek Rd.
Gravelled Countyline Road that was the closest thing to a roller coaster in our back yard.
Woodsies, Deckers and the open fields to the South of school.
And most of all the rivalries and the friends that were split leaving middle school for high school.
Littleton was small then. Everyone almost knew everyone else. Let’s take time to share the memories with our lifetime friends or renewed acquaintances. Just because you shouldn't live in the past doesn't mean it's not a nice place to visit and share some great memories!
